What is collagen? Collagen is a protein that forms the basic structural material of connective tissues in the body. The structure of individual collagens is divided into 28 types, with the first three being the most significant. Type I collagen accounts for 90% of all collagen in the body and is found in the skin, tendons, bones, and connective tissue. Type II collagen is found in the cartilage matrix. Type III collagen is found in soft tissues such as smooth muscles, nerve fibers, hematopoietic tissue, and epithelium.

ESSENS Collagen Composition: ESSENS Collagen is made from hydrolyzed porcine collagen type I and III, and plant collagen type II. Porcine collagen is structurally closest to humans as mammals. Animal-derived collagen is poorly soluble in water and the body would not be able to use it, so it is hydrolyzed (breakdown reaction by water) to ensure maximum effectiveness in the body. The most valuable component is native (not destroyed by heat, chemicals, or enzymes during processing) non-hydrolyzed plant collagen from acacia, which does not contain any pathogenic factors and retains its natural structure.
